Many people suffer from acne, making it the most common skin condition in the world. This skin condition is caused by many factors including excessive production of an oily substance called sebum, clogged skin pores, and bacteria, resulting in irritated skin and appearance of pimples on your face. Acne can be both cosmetically and emotionally challenging for those who have it. If you are one of the people who are currently experiencing this and are looking to regain your confidence while avoiding long-term antibiotics or medication with serious side effects, then our laser scar removal treatment also known as Acne Laser Treatment is for you!
Ellipse IPL™ Technology & Photodynamic Therapy
Here at QC Skin Cancer & Laser Clinic, we use the advanced and proven Ellipse IPL™ technology in treating acne. This non-invasive acne laser treatment creates high-intensity pulsed light towards the targeted areas. This system works by decreasing the blood supply to the sebaceous glands, effectively reducing sebum production. The patented Dual Mode Filtering of this technology also ensures that the wavelengths used are safe and will not impact surrounding vessels.
To boost the effectiveness of this laser scar removal treatment, a photosensitizer might be applied onto the skin before exposure to IPL. Between 15 minutes and 3 hours after the application of the solution, our cosmetic doctor can then proceed to the IPL treatment. This is also called IPL activated Photodynamic Therapy.
What can you expect?
Prior to your acne laser treatment, you will meet with one of our cosmetic doctors for a consultation. They will discuss your treatment goals and figure out how many sessions you will need to achieve your desired cosmetic results, which will depend mostly on the severity of your acne and the area to be treated. A typical course usually includes 4 treatments, with 3 weeks in between each session.
It is also extremely important that you avoid sun exposure and tanning before, during, and after your treatment period. This ensures that your skin will not be extremely sensitive to the light treatment, decreasing the risks of unwanted side effects .
After the treatment, you may notice some general redness on your face. To help with the healing process, our skin specialist will prescribe you an ointment to apply on the treated areas. The use of cold damp cloth on your skin may also provide healing benefits.
Acne is difficult to completely eradicate. In some cases, our skin care specialist may prescribe you with topical medicine for some months following your last IPL treatment.
