Vascular conditions come in many variations and are extremely common. Whether you have visible red, blue, or purple veins, diffuse redness or a flushed appearance, it can be very troublesome and difficult to disguise with make-up. The underlying cause of redness and visible veins varies; however, they are all associated with abnormalities within the blood vessels of our skin.
We see a variety of vascular conditions in clinic and are equipped to perform the following treatments:
A commonality amongst patients with these vascular conditions is reduced self-confidence and a desire for a clearer, calmer complexion. If you are suffering with any vascular condition, we can assist you in achieving an even skin tone in approximately 1-3 laser vein removal treatments.
What is the Laser vein removal treatment?
For this treatment, our skin care specialist will be using the Nordlys Ellipse IPL. This system has narrowband technology that targets your blood vessels deep within your skin whilst preserving the surrounding tissues. As the heat from the laser builds within the targeted vessels, this causes the vessels to shut down, disabling the blood from flowing back through the affected veins.
When treatment is successful, the veins vanish, effectively diminishing the vascular conditions that once appeared on the surface of the skin. The body will naturally clear out any defective veins over the coming weeks. A more regular veins network will remain within the skin. This treatment is safe and can provide fantastic results in a very short timeframe. Our Rosacea laser treatments and broken capillaries removal treatments have great success and are very popular amongst our patients.
What can you expect?
Prior to your laser vein removal treatment, you will meet with one of our cosmetic doctors for a consultation. They will discuss your treatment goals and figure out how many sessions you will need to achieve your desired cosmetic results.
Many patients will see marked improvements after just one session. Depending on the severity, location, and type of vascular condition, up to 3 sessions might be required to attain maximal improvement. Whilst smaller veins can disappear immediately after a treatment, larger veins may fade away more gradually over the next few weeks. Depending on the cause of your vascular condition, some treatments such as Rosacea laser, may require a yearly maintenance treatment to keep redness at bay.
It is also extremely important that you avoid sun exposure 4 weeks before and after your treatment. This ensures that your skin will not be extremely sensitive to the light treatment, decreasing the risks of unwanted side effects.
After the treatment, you may notice some swelling and redness, which will disappear in approximately 1-4 days.
To help with the healing process, our skin specialist may prescribe you an ointment to apply on the treated areas.
What happens during a laser vein removal treatment?
During your treatment a layer of gel will be applied to the treatment area. Cool air may also be used to maintain a safe and comfortable temperature for your skin. A handheld laser device will then be used to apply successive pulses of light across the treatment area.
This can be likened to a flick of a rubber band with a short burst of heat sensation with each pulse. At the conclusion of your treatment, it is reasonable to expect a pink to reddened appearance of the skin.
This normal skin response will subside within 3-5 days before revealing a clearer complexion with reduced vessels. Any pain or heat in the treated area can be managed with a cool compress at home. Burn aid creams or aloe vera gel can also be applied to reduce pain during the initial healing phase.
